i’m getting kind of burned out by life nowadays hence the gap in posts, but thanks to my new followers (hi!) and everyone else for sticking around. here’s some nerdy art stuff i’ve been doing (always have time for nerdy art stuff):
- attending a perspective class at sva taught by sal amendola, an incredible dc/marvel/archie comics alum who also happens to be a very good at explaining such a technical & potentially dry subject. plus he has some pretty entertaining catholic school horror stories.
- going to figure drawing sessions 2-3 days a week. i really really love it, it makes me feel so calm. the downside is that i don’t have many artfriends (esp my age, lots of people there tend to be the older set) - so anyone in nyc who’s interested in coming with me, do contact me! :)
- and because of these first two things, i’m buying way too many art supplies. my wallet hates me. i did discover my figure-weapon of choice: phano china markers. and consequently procured enough to last me a year
- reading art books on the subway, including: color and light by james gurney and the animator’s survival kit by richard williams. next i wanna get: figure drawing for all it’s worth by andrew loomis (free pdf here, though i think i’ve posted this here before), framed ink by marcos mateu-mestre, and directing the story by francis glebas. 8D
- also saw the mcqueen show at the met last weekend. god, its epicness cannot be conveyed in words (or even pictures) so anyone who’s in the area, go see it! it’s up until july 31. the man’s brilliant and the exhibit is nicely put together. the wait time when i went was 30 mins plus but it was more than worth it… even though there’s no sketching allowed.
